Haiti, the first independent Black nation of the new hemisphere has been suffering for decades. I applaud Secretary Hillary's efforts in her attempt to bring change. The reality is, millions of dollars have gone through Haiti without any significant change in people's lives. There needs to be an independent oversight committee created to oversee how donated money should be spent, to ensure that every sector benefits.
Thank you for posting this. I just returned from Haiti and was absolutely intoxicated by the people's spirit, generosity, and warmth. I'm already anxiously planning my next trip back.
I'm happy to hear Ms. Clinton speak in such a positive tone about Haiti's future... it was clear that many of the Haitian people have renewed hopes in the US with Barack Obama as President. It will be interesting to see how the next few years unfold...
and, as I heard so many times excitedly expressed in Port-au-Prince: Bon bagay!
Michael, thank you so much for this post. Haiti is been struggling for a long time and we are now at the beginning of Haiti's 3rd century of being independent and we have seen no significant progress. However, my intuition dictates that something amazing is in the air for Haiti and I am hopeful that I will live to see a renewed Haiti.
